This is not solely about the South Carolina DMV, as I’m certain all the DMVs throughout the country are models of efficiency.

I was introduced to the SC DMV back in January when I needed to convert my PA license to SC.

But we purchased Deb a new car in Georgia and had to have the title and tags redone in our home state of SC.

I gathered all the paperwork I thought we would need, we were off to the DMV in Bluffton (Just off Hilton Head).

After the usual twenty-minute wait for a parking spot to open, we’re in line #1, the line you get in to get a number for your actual line. After a relatively brief wait, the nice woman reviewed our papers and told us, “You need to pay your property taxes first.”

“Great! Here’s my credit card.”

“No, you need to go to the Treasurer”
“Which line is that?”

“Oh, that’s not here; the Treasurer is in the County office. Here are directions.”

A ten-minute drive. Good news: plenty of parking available.

We take a ticket and a seat!

Ten minutes later, our number is called.

“We need to pay our property taxes.”
“Have you been to the Assessor yet?”
“I thought that was you!”
“No sir. That’s on the other side of the room. I have transferred your number over there. They will call you soon.”

They did, and now we have our bill. Now we wait again to see the Treasurer.

In another ten minutes, we’re done (here) and return to the DMV. It’s 12:00 and I’m hoping they don’t close for lunch!

At 1:15 our number was called, and I’m holding my breath as she reviews our paperwork. Not only was our paperwork in order, but we left with our actual, permanent license plate.

It was a pleasure!
