It’s been a month now, a month I spent in Europe, away from all the post-election hysteria, speculation, and finger-pointing.
Many smarter and more distinguished than me have sliced and diced this tomato to death. Now it’s time for my personal spin.
I must admit, I could not imagine Trump winning this election. He decidedly lost to Biden in 2020, and after four years of the 1/6 insurrection, thirty-three felony convictions, and the loss of all of his mental faculties, how could he actually GAIN in popularity?
If only the Democrats had read my novel, APRIL FOOLS: THE CANDIDATE. In the book, I outline the campaign strategy for my fictional Aaron Trachtman to defeat Trump in a landslide.
So here are my opinions on what went wrong.
Voter turnout — especially in big cities like Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Cleveland, and Milwaukee, Kamala Harris never connected with Black voters. I’ll say it-her light skin and marriage to a Jew did not endear her to Blacks. They didn’t vote for Trump, they just stayed home, which amounted to the same.
Abortion — Democrats do not understand that NO ONE favors abortions. What we do favor is a woman’s right to CHOOSE and make her own decisions about her health care. We should never use the word ABORTION! This affirms the Right’s characterization as baby killers.
Messaging-the Dems have two problems with their communications. First, they have lost touch with Middle America, and second, they never figured out how to respond to lies and accusations about immigration, spending, crime, and inflation.
We Americans are a selfish lot. We care not about morals, ethics, integrity, or adultery, but only about what might be best for me.
Student loan forgiveness? Palestinians? World Peace? Ukraine? Russian interference? Health and safety? Infrastructure?
WGAS?
But immigrants who might take our jobs, rape our women, or eat our pets?
We’ll have none of that.
I believe we are seeing the Achilles Heel of Democracy. The basis demanded a well-educated and informed electorate willing to look past their personal benefits for the good of all. If we ever had that, we certainly do not in 2024.
Where does this leave us?
Up the creek, I fear. I am seventy-eight years old. I think I can manage to survive for whatever time I might have. But my children and grandchildren?
The next four years will see the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer.
Voting rights will be curtailed and made more difficult.
Government spending on programs for the poor, Medicare, Medicaid, healthcare, infrastructure, education, and consumer protection and safety will all be reduced. This will allow tax cuts for the wealthy, perpetuation a system that will never benefit, WE THE PEOPLE!
