We used to call it “planned obsolescence”; a product built to fail within a certain period, so the consumer would have to buy a new product.

We know things go out of style, cars, clothes, TV’s, cell phones, shoes, even foods. We do not know why. The old item still works, but an influencer, ad executive, celebrity endorser, or someone made us feel like we wanted something new.

Colors go out of style, and new ones are created.

We are a consumption society. Our economy is built on our needing, or wanting, new stuff.

I get it! I’m as guilty as the next person. Sure, my iPhone 11 still works, but have you seen the camera on the new iPhone 16?

But here’s one I think you missed…

Dog breeds go out of style, to be replaced by newer, hipper breeds.

I believe there is a dramatic reduction in the number of collies, cocker spaniels, and schnauzers out there.

Retrievers, labs, and goldendoodles have replaced them. Poodles will screw just about anything, so be careful.

Who decided no one wants schnauzers anymore?

This is something DOGE should be investigating.
